Do you need to condition wood before gel stain?
Should Minwax® Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner be used with Gel Stain? Yes. Some woods, such as pine and maple, tend to absorb stains unevenly. Before using Gel Stain, Minwax® Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner should be applied to ensure even stain penetration.
Can you use gel stain without sanding?
It doesn’t require you to sand the wood all the way down to its raw state for best adhesion the way you would with a typical stain. In fact, just a little light sanding will do the trick, and then you’re ready to begin the application process with a lint-free cloth.
